The June meeting of the Protective Services Scrutiny Committee looked at the Firearms Licensing processes for Sussex Police. In light of the tragic events in Cumbria, Sussex Police Authority heard how ACPO will now draw on experiences and learning gathered from the Cumbrian shootings for the benefit of all Forces across the country.
In addition to this Sussex Police Authority agreed for a small team of members to specifically inspect the operation of firearms licensing in Sussex. This team of members will use this opportunity to scrutinise the processes in place in Sussex and help ensure that standards are upheld and that lessons from Cumbria are heeded.
