Sussex leading the way with more women on patrol than the rest of the UK

Female dog handlerAs reported in The Argus, Sussex has more women police staff patrolling its streets than anywhere else in the country. After a concerted recruitment programme, nearly six in ten of the county's police community support officers are women, the highest percentage in the UK and far above the national average of 42%.

The Resources Scrutiny Committee has heard how the main aims of mainstreaming diversity and equality in day to day people management activities of the Force is to reinforce the culture and behaviours that promote customer service, provide services that meet different people's needs and build relationships with communities.

Neighbourhood PolicingTHE NEIGHBOURHOOD POLICING SCRUTINY COMMITTEE is a public meeting that examines Sussex Police Performance against targets within the Local Policing Plan that relate to the delivery of Neighbourhood Policing in Sussex. It is also responsible for approving the Authority's plans for engaging with the public, and considers the drivers for public confidence in policing.

Keeping You Safe - imageTHE PROTECTIVE SERVICES SCRUTINY COMMITTEE is a public meeting that examines Sussex Police Performance against targets within the Local Policing Plan that relates to the delivery of services known as Protective Services. These include Roads Policing, Protecting Vulnerable People, Serious and Organised Crime and investigating Major Crime.

Best Use of ResourcesTHE RESOURCES SCRUTINY COMMITTEE is a public meeting that examines Sussex Police Performance against targets within the Local Policing Plan covering areas such as Human Resources, Information Systems and Financial Management.
