Sussex Police Authority will welcome the High Sheriffs of Sussex at the full meeting of the Authority on Thursday. Mrs Elizabeth Bennett, the High Sheriff for West Sussex, and Mrs Deborah Bedford, the High Sheriff for East Sussex, will attend the meeting at County Hall, Lewes on Thursday.

The Office of High Sheriff is an independent, non political Office which enables the holder to bring together a wide variety of individuals and organisations that contribute to the life of the community.

High Sheriffs in many parts of England and Wales have been particularly active in the field of reduction of crime and the development of an anti crime culture. It is this interest that is cemented by partnerships with Sussex Police Authority and Sussex Police and is a vital part of the role in Sussex.

Both Mrs Bennett and Mrs Bedford were very recently appointed and this will be their first visit to a Police Authority meeting.

Chairman of Sussex Police Authority, Dr Laurie Bush, said of the occasion: "I am delighted to welcome the High Sheriffs of West and East Sussex to the Police Authority meeting, on Thursday, and hope that this will help develop even further the links between the Office of High Sheriff and the Police Authority in the future."
