STRONG FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

Strong financial management, particularly in touch economic times, is essential if the Authority is to protect the delivery of frontline policing in Sussex. The Authority's Vice-Chairman, Mr Steve Waight, is the Lead Member for Resources and chairs our Resources Scrutiny Committee.  The Authority's Treasurer, Mr Richard Hornby, works very closely with the Director of Finance in Sussex Police, Mr Mark Baker, to ensure that we work together to secure the very best value for money for the people of Sussex.

We work closely with the Chief Constable to ensure money is spent wisely. In the most recent Annual Governance report from the Audit Commission, the District Auditor stated that..

"The Authority and Force plan finances effectively to deliver strategic priorities and secure sound financial health... The Authority and Force have a sound understanding of its costs and performance and achieve efficiencies in its activities. The use of cost and performance information allows informed business decisions to be taken which contribute to better value for money, for example in reconfiguring CCTV monitoring and improved performance in incident management and customer contact. Financial reporting is timely, reliable and meets the needs of internal users, stakeholders and local people."

This statement reflects the importance that the Authority and the Chief Constable place on making the very best use of the public resources we have available to deliver services to the public of Sussex.
