Mary began her local government career at Westminster City Council in 1987 working in personnel, training and performance management before moving to Hastings Borough Council in 2000 to manage the Democratic Services team. In 2004 she was appointed to East Sussex County Council as the Head of Democratic Services where she worked until March 2011. Mary joined Sussex Police Authority in December 2011 and works part time with particular responsibility for overseeing the election of the Police and Crime Commissioner and supporting the transition to the new structure in November 2012.
