Dan was born in Brighton and brought up in Lewes and Wealden. Following 7 years as an officer in The Royal Air Force Dan returned to Sussex, working in various capacities in the recruitment industry, rising to Director of an East Sussex company. Dan worked in Wealden District Council, specialising in emergency planning and Community Safety, before joining the Authority in 2004. Dan has a Masters in Science (MSc) in Criminal Justice from the University of Leicester , which was completed in 2007.

Dan assumed his current role in 2007  and his responsibilities include:

  • the leadership and management of the secretariat including the policy officer team and the Press and PR officer;
  • lead executive officer for Continuous Improvement;
  • lead executive  officer for partnership work across East Sussex;
  • lead executive officer for Protective Services and Professional Standards;
  • lead executive officer for Police Appeals Tribunals and Employment tribunals;
  • lead officer for the investigation of complaints against Chief Police Officers;
  • lead officer for inspections , including liaison with the Audit Commission and HMIC ;
  • lead officer for scrutiny and performance management;
  • Risk Manager for the Authority; and
  • Budget Manager for the Chief Executives department.
