A published author and bookseller, Lionel has been a member of West Sussex County Council since 2001. He was Chairman of Henfield Conservatives from 1996 to 2000 and was re-elected for 2008 to 2009. He has also been the Cabinet Member for Public Protection.
Lionel joined the Police Authority in June 2003, serving as vice-chairman for a short period before becoming chairman in June 2007, a position he held until July 2009.
Married with one son, his hobbies are computers, reading American crime novels, biographies, politics and current affairs.
