Mrs Carole Shaves MBE JP

Carole has been a magistrate since 1989 and is Deputy Chairman of the Sussex Eastern Bench where she is a chairman of the Adult and Family Courts.She is also Vice-Chair of Bexhill College Board of Governors. Carole is a past Editor in Chief, Talking Newspaper for the Blind, past Chairman of Hastings and Rother Victim Support and past Vice Chairman of Sussex Victim Support.

Carole was appointed to the Authority as a Magistrate Member in 2005 and subsequently reappointed as an Independent Member in 2008 following changes to police authority membership requirements which abolished the magistrate member category. She also represents the Authority on Police Appeals Tribunals and on the Brighton & Hove Children's Trust Board, East Sussex Children and Young People's Executive Trust Group, East Sussex Scrutiny Committee for Children's Services and West Sussex Children's Trust Management Board. She is also Chairman of the Safer Hastings Partnership; of which the Police Authority is a statutory partner.

Carole was awarded an MBE in 2005 for her services to Victim Support across Sussex.
